The Beatles at Shea Stadium (1965) – interesting look back

Some factoids:

  1. They only played for 20-30 minutes, as was conventional at the time. Most fans weren’t able to hear them due to the screaming – and the Beatles themselves had a hard time hearing themselves.
  2. Lennon breaks into gibberish mid-sentence at one point, certain that no-one would be able to hear what he was saying anyway.
  3. This marked the high point of their live performances – soon after there would be the “we’re bigger than Jesus” debacle, and audiences in the US would never be the same (following from that there was a real fear that any of them could be assassinated while performing live – eventually contributing to their decision to give up live performances altogether).
  4. Cleaners reported many cases where they had to mop up urine soaked seats.
