4 Ways To Make Your Kitchen Look Spacious

A small kitchen could be difficult to keep organized, but it is definitely possible. In fact, a small kitchen could look absolutely adorable when it’s fixed up right. What’s more, you could even manage to get your kitchen looking bigger than it actually is.

All it takes is a little bit of effort and know-how to fix up a kitchen space. Then you can enjoy your cooking and experiments to your heart’s content! Read on below for some handy tips and tricks to make your tiny kitchen look and feel bigger:

1. Shallow Cabinets

The first design move may seem a little different, but it’s actually a sure-fire way to get more space without much compromise. If you’ve just moved into a new house or apartment, chances are you’re getting new cabinets installed. Usually, lower cabinets are around 24 inches deep. However, the cabinets that are half this much are easily available. If you can’t find them, you can always consider buying upper cabinets and installing them on the loser side.

The result? Your kitchen floor space gets expanded by a huge amount! You may even find slimmer cabinets on the bottom more convenient. This way, you don’t have to bend over and forage in the very back of a lower cabinet. Of course, it does mean you have less storage space, but you probably won’t be utilizing the back of deep cabinets anyway.

What’s more, the shallow cabinets give a slightly different, unique and more modern look to your kitchen. People won’t quite be able to put their finger on it, but they would wonder how your kitchen seems so spacious in such a small space!

2. Open Up Your Counters

For a perpetually neat and tidy kitchen, you need to open up as much counter space as possible. This usually means sweeping your hardware out of sight, or disposing of it altogether. If you can afford it, invest in those cabinet doors that have touch-activated latches. You can also get some of the kinds that require you to reach in and pull them out. Thus, you can keep your toaster, waffle maker, etc in these places.

The empty spaces would hence let your kitchen maintain a clean and straight-lined look. This would automatically make it look much bigger. You can then relax and focus on helping your family, even those who say ‘do my dissertation for me’.

3. No Double Sinks

You may think a double sink is a necessity, but it’s really not. You don’t need to compromise much when you have just a single sink. A dish rack can easily replace the second sink.

There is also the option of a one-and-a-half sink, which features a much slimmer second tray. This way, you can have even more counter space to make your kitchen expand.

You may even be able to put an additional cabinet on the side where you would usually have a second sink. Instead of unused dead space, this area would not become a closed storage option for all the things you don’t immediately need.

4. Slim Down The Appliances

You may think you can’t compromise on a dishwasher or refrigerator, but there are several smaller models you can probably make do with. It’s not necessary to have a huge fridge if you’re just small family of three, for instance. As for dishwashers, the condo size of 18 inches would probably serve a small kitchen better than the standard 24-inch width. These are also growing more popular, and hence would be easier to find in the market.

When you shave a few inches off a large appliance, you have more space for cabinets, closed baskets, or even a little bit of décor! It’s amazing what a little splash of color could do to brighten up the space and make it feel bigger.

Wrap-Up…

The kitchen is usually the hub of all activities in a home. The more attention you pay to it, the easier your life would become. So do adopt as many of these tips as possible for a happier, cozier, more efficient home.
