London is renowned for its nightlife – nightclubs, pubs and shows are all part of the after sunset scene. But it’s not always easy to get a quality meal after the evening has worn on a little so you need to think ahead if you want to eat later. These Canary Wharf restaurants should be on your list of late night dining favourites.
1. Boisdale
Open till midnight, the Boisdale of Canary Wharf is the perfect place for late night dining. The restaurant offers a range of sumptuous Scottish-themed food from wonderful oysters to Angus steaks and the grouse (available in season) is irresistible. Throw in an unsurpassed collection of whiskies and a soothing jazz accompaniment and you have the ingredients for an unforgettable night of great food and wonderful entertainment. Don’t forget that Boisdale’s is closed on Sundays.
2. Rocket
The Rocket Restaurant and Bar is open six days a week (closed Sundays) until 11.00pm (Monday till Wednesday) and midnight (Thursday till Saturday). The ground floor bar serves a great collection of cocktails and wines and, upstairs, the 90-seat restaurant (with a further 40 seats on the outside terrace) is a great place to relax and try one of Rocket’s renowned pizzas or something from the grill.
3. Rum and Sugar
Taking its name from the old rum and sugar Grade 1 listed warehouse that it now occupies, the Rum and Sugar is open till 11.00pm every night except Thursday, when it closes at 1.00am, and Sunday, when it closes at 6.00pm. It has one of the best rum collections around and superb bar food. The main menu boast traditional food with a contemporary feel and if you fancy an evening of good music just pop along on a Thursday for a fantastic night out.
4. Iberica
Open till 11.00pm from Monday to Saturday, Iberica brings authentic flavours of Spain to Canary Wharf. With the look and feel of a traditional Spanish tapas bar, it has a menu that boasts a mixture of classic dishes and new innovative offerings that delight the palette – could you resist Segovian suckling pig or fried chorizo lollypops with pear alioli sauce?
5. Sri Nam
For a late night taste of Asia, Sri Nam is hard to beat. Open till 11.00pm from Monday to Friday, Sri Nam has an informal café-bar for the casual diner and a sumptuous Thai-style dining room for those wanting a more formal atmosphere. Sri Nam has been part of the Canary wharf restaurant scene for several years and has established a well-earned reputation for excellent, tasty food.
6. Zizzi
Recently refurbished, Zizzi is open till 11.00 from Monday to Saturday and, unlike most Canary Wharf restaurants, is open till 10.30pm on Sundays. It offers top quality Italian food and has great views over the river. Superb pizzas, tasty pasta and delicious risotto dishes are all on the menu. Add that to a delightful wine list and you will have a late night dinner to remember.
