Flooring is one of those overlooked elements that play perhaps the most major role in setting the overall ambiance of any space. Does this sound unbelievable? Well, think hard: what is the first thing you notice in any room?
Naturally, it follows that you pay special attention to the choices available, and trust me there are a lot of choices available to choose from! From a diverse range of textures, patterns, and colors in wooden laminated floors to floors of solid wood, stone floors, and tiles – there’s a wide variety of options in the market!
Seriously, it is easier to choose home and land packages then it is to decide on what kind of floor you want in your home!
The Top Trends for the Year
Since there are so many options available, let’s consider the top styles for the current year 2019 to narrow down the choices and help you decide! As can be expected, quite an interesting assortment of designs for flooring choices have been looming as trends for 2019.
Some of these are:
– Mosaics
Mosaics are making a huge comeback in 2019. The beautiful thing about mosaics is that they have the ability to liven up just about any space without being overpowering.
Mostly though mosaics are being used to adorn spaces such as foyers and even bathrooms, where they lend an archaic air that you would be hard-put to generate with any other flooring.
While black and white mosaic tiles are trending right now, they can also be used in a mix-and-match situation to introduce interesting prints and textures.
– Going Green
This is one thing I am a huge fan of. With the amount of trash, we produce and dump into ecosystems every day, going green is one initiative that actually incorporates some responsibility for our actions on our beautiful planet. While there are so many wonderful options we can opt for, that do not in any way ruin the limited resources we have, it is sad that most of us want to install and use things that are considered harmful on the environment we live in.
With the horrifying truth of crashing ecosystems, extinct species, melting glaciers, changing climates and many others glaring us in the face; it is hard to understand why we won’t even make an effort to choose sustainable resources.
That being said, there are many of us who are consciously trying to reduce the carbon footprint we leave behind. Thinking along the lines of conserving this planet for future generations, “green” options are being thought of such as cork, recycled wood, bamboo, and even engineered wood.
The advantage of using sustainable resources such as cork is that the cork tree, for instance, has the ability to regenerate after every harvest if care is taken to remove only the outer bark without disrupting the inner layer.
– Wood-look Tiles
Tiles engineered and manufactured to resemble wood are another “green” option. They are easy to choose instead of actual wood as the resemblance is uncanny! Only you would know the tiles beneath your feet aren’t actually wood.
These tiles are especially useful in spaces where water usage is common such as bathrooms as they are resistant to building up mold or termites, as well as general signs of wear and tear due to water.
A further advantage of using these look-alike tiles is that a huge range of wallpapers or wall tiles that coordinate with the colors of the tiles can be opted for. It’s definitely a win-win all around!
– Rustic Looks
Flooring which induces a rustic look is also at an all-time high right now. The nostalgic feeling of being in a farmhouse is particularly a preference for kitchen floors. Planks of increased length and width are in considerable demand along with an emphasis on natural aging and reclaimed materials.
– Carpeting
Wall-to-wall carpeting has been a sidelined trend for a considerable amount of time now. Not anymore though! Now that the furor of tiles and wooden floors has declined somewhat, people are turning back to carpeting areas where the family spends a lot of time in such as living rooms.
While tiles and wooden floors do convey a sense of cleanliness and openness, the simple fact is that carpets are easy to clean with a vacuum rather than sweeping and mopping and that they are vastly superior in comfort. Families with little children especially are rapidly turning back to carpeting living areas, or at least introducing huge and thick rugs so children can play with comfort.
Choosing a home and land package is just one small step towards building a home. What follows is a myriad of decisions about the smallest of things that may seem insignificant but remember that every small thing matters!
